Srinagar, July 17: Life in the Kashmir Valley today returned to normal with schools and business establishments reopening and vehicles back on the roads after 21 days of strike, curfew and restrictions on the movement of people under prohibitory orders.
As separatists asked people to resume their normal activities till 2 PM, business markets, educational institutions and private offices reopened and transport was plying on the roads across the Valley.Traffic jams were witnessed on many roads in view of the heavy rush of people.
Though the situation in the Valley became tense on June 11 when teenager Tufail Ahmad Mattoo was killed allegedly by teargas shells at Gani stadium near Rajourikadal, the situation worsened on June 26 and authorities imposed curfew and invoked prohibitory orders to foil a march to Sopore called by moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq.
